Here at The Rising Sun we are passionate about local food. We serve the very best in fresh seasonal produce, cooked just how you like it. Our menus have something for everyone, from fish lovers to vegetarians, with an ever-changing selection of specials to reflect the best of the coast and countryside. Perfectly complemented with a great wine list and well-kept real ales and ciders.
With a location so close to the sea, we are in an excellent position to make the most of the local catch. Depending on the season, diners can expect anything from prime lobster to fantastically fresh sea bass and local mussels. Quality is everything for us and the only frozen food you will find in our kitchen is the ice cream!
Non-residents are very welcome to eat at The Rising Sun, but we do recommend booking a table during busy times.

Our supper menu combines quality West Country ingredients with thoughtful, seasonal cooking. Fresh seafood features alongside carefully prepared meat and vegetarian dishes, with pub classics for those who prefer something familiar and a tempting selection of puddings and local cheeses to finish.
Sunday Menu
Sundays at The Rising Sun are made for a proper roast by the coast. Choose from roast pork, Exmoor beef or a vegetarian nut roast, served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, seasonal vegetables and gravy, with fresh seafood, pub favourites and homemade puddings also available.

A modern bathroom in a 14th century hotel was definitely not expected. Wi-Fi worked in the room. The staff were friendly and efficient. Breakfast provided a good selection, and the cooked items were really good. Sunday lunch was close to home made with plenty of different vegetables. Will definitely return!

Travelled with my husband and my parents and stayed at The Rising Sun for one night. We had paid a little extra to get good rooms, but we never expected the quality of the rooms given to us. Big, airy, and cool with a direct entrance out to the sea. Sea view from every window and extremely clean. The breakfast was perfect with everything we needed, and it was served inside the charming old pub. We could not fault it!

Lovely room overlooking the harbour, accessed from a flight of twisty stairs and a delightfully wonky corridor with original panelling and low, not for me, beams. Our room was decorated with taste in a classic style to embrace the age of the Inn without feeling like your Aunty Edna's house. Great to perch on the window seat and look out to sea with the thatch overhead. Fab breakfast, nicely presented by chefs who understand allergies; mine was strictly gluten-free. Don't be alarmed by the traditional pubby feel when you arrive; this isn't the experience you have as a guest, and despite being one floor up and directly over the front door and outdoor seating, there was no late-night noise to keep us awake at all. Lovely, friendly staff. We would definitely stay here again.

All the staff were happy, helpful, and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Our room had a fantastic view over Lynmouth and sea. Everything was spotlessly clean. Food was delicious, both breakfast and dinner. Friendly, lively atmosphere. We only intended to stay for 2 nights but ended up staying 5.

We normally camp but this year we chose the Rising Sun for our Easter Break. Perfectly located with wonderful sea views from our room. This chocolate box inn is superbly cosy yet with more than a hint of piracy. In fact, climbing the stairs to our room and navigating the tilting hallway put me in mind of old galleons. Our room was nicely furnished with a good en-suite shower room and a cute window seat. The room was small but clean. It must be hard to clean all the nooks and crannies of such an ancient building but think they nailed it. Definitely due for some redecoration though as many scuffs and dents on the walls. The carpet on stairs and landing needs taking away and left as wood in my opinion. We had a fabulous meal there on our first night and the breakfasts were great too. We've always dreamed of staying here and it didn't disappoint.
